Now that Thanksgiving is over its time to focus on the part of the year that leaves me exhausted, broke, but extremely satisfied once it is all over.

Restocking my office supplies. You thought I was going to say Christmas didn't you? Ha! Fooled ya, didn't I?

For some reason, when December rolls around I am running out of everything. Sure, I do periodic supply runs through the year, replacing ink cartridges here, high bond paper there, but for some reason I run out of everything at the same time now.

So, it is time for my trip to the Mecca of Office Supplies - I'm heading to Staples.

The guys (and I say guys, cuz I don't think there is a female employee in the entire store) at my local Staples know me well. As soon as I breach the sliding glass Entrance doors, one of them greets me. By name.

"Hi Kim! Time for your annual buying spree?" Sometimes it's Phil, other times it's Chris. Niether of them tries to hide the dollar signs that have replaced the pupils of their eyes.

"Yep," I reply scanning the store.

"Well, if you need any help, let me know!" Phil/Chirs/whoever will reply before scampering off. I then am left alone to make the purchases that I need to make. Very low key, very cool.

One year, I must have arrived at the store when all the new people were working. As I walked around the store, grabbing reams of 10-bond paper, boxes of pens, and other office supply do-dads, a curious employee approached me.

"Can I help you?" the employee asked.

"Nope. Got it covered, thanks," I answered while I debated between ivory grain and white linen bond paper.

"You know," the employee continued, "unless you are sending out presentations you don't really need that expensive paper. Regular typing paper will do."

"Uh, thanks for the tip," I answered. I choose the Ivory grain paper and walked away.

"You realize that's $25.00 for a bix of 150 sheets?" the employee called after me.

"Yep. But do you realize that I am a writer and need good paper to send out submissions?"

"No, didn't know that."

"Yeah, I know." I walked away.

Now, I'm not sure whether this guy was trying to be helpful, or didn't think I could afford the 25 bucks for the paper. Either way, he was annoying. And it just got worse.

When I picked out a cartridge for my printer, he informed me that I had to be POSITIVE that I was choosing the correct one because there was no returns.

Not a good day for writing...AT ALL!

Word count for today: 0 Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Dammit!

This is NOT how I wanted to start NaNo! I wasnted to be heading toward the 10k word count. Now, I don't even have 3k! This really bites!

Oh well, I think I'll do some writing before bed tonight/this morning. Could maybe make the 5k mark before I pass out.

Well, that's it. Next time: a word count worth mentioning...I hope. For the Love of God and everything Holy I hope so!
