So, exactly how many rings does hell have again?
Ya know, after the week I had, Hell looks like a dream vacation. Well, parts of it anyway. The week, not hell. Lemme explain.
Monday
Ran errands. Bought shoes for Taylor. Shopped for Christmas gifts..found nothing. Shuttled Taylor to a Holiday performance. Sat in the back with all the other stage moms. Felt like an idiot...should have told her to smile more or do her "special" solo, or threatened to make her walk home in the freezing rain if she screwed up. See, if I would have done THAT, then I would have fit in with the other nazi-moms that were there. Good thing I'm a nonconformist...at least when Taylor enters therapy as an adult, it won't be because of how I acted at her performances. When Taylor finished, I gave her a hug...and noticed she had a temperature.
Bowels of Hell - 1st Rung: fever and "mom-I-don't-feel-too-good!"
Tuesday
Taylor's fever seemed to disappear after an hour or so, so she convinced me to let her go to school. She had another performance at school, plus the big winter concert that evening. Since she had been practicing for three months for these performances, I reneiged and let her go. She made it through school, but I noticed that she was congested when she came home. I made Chicken stew and biscuits for dinner (figured it couldn't hurt to get some chicken soup down her...) and then we went to her Christmas concert.
Okay, this is going to sound mean, but, hey..my blog, I can say what I want. I forgot how absolutely awful new musicians are. You know, the kids who have only been playing their instruments for a few months and then they are thrust into the limelight and forced to "entertain" a big room of adults. Between the nerves and their inexperience, it makes for a painful experience for all. But at least they are look absolutely adorable all dressed up, and you have to applaud their courage to get up there and perform. And for the record, I sat through many "first performances" with Taylor...so I walked through that fire...and am proud to say I still have my eyebrows. Taylor's groups (band and choir) were great. After the performance, I gave Taylor a hug...and realized she had a major fever going on to accompany the sniffles and sore throat.
Bowels of Hell - Second Rung: "God Mom, I hate the taste of that stuff! Do-you-have-to-take-my-temperature-again?"
Wednesday
Taylor stayed home from school. I spent my hours before work filling juice glasses, administering medicine, taking temperatures, and piling on blankets and then removing them. But she was better than her dad -- at least she could operate the remote control.
Went to work..nothing new going on..wonders of wonders. Had a feeling that things were about to change. Lou didn't want to babysit...someone really needs to remind him that when you are watching your own kid it is not babysitting, it's called PARENTING! When will that man get a clue? Forget I asked that.
Bowels of Hell - 4th Rung "But does it come in black?"
Thursday
Got a call from Lowes. The stove I had picked out and paid for was on backorder and would not be available til January. I could either wait til it came in, or I could pick out another stove and if need be, they would refund the balance. So-of-a-bitch! Do these people know how long I looked for the perfect stove? I took notes...I had post-its! I had a CHART!!!! But there was NO WAY I was going to wait til January to get a stove, so I settled on the model just below the one I originally picked out. Of course (because this is MY life we're talking about!) it didn't come in black. Heaven forbid I get exactly what I want. Can't have that. It could have been worse, my other choice only came in pueuce. Bleh.
Taylor had begged me to let her go to school. She had a test and didn't want to go through the hassle of making it up. So she went. Meanwhile, I called off work to take care of "Appliance Crisis 2003". When we picked Taylor up from school, she lambasted me for not picking her up earlier. Now, if I would have insisted that she stay home to begin with, there would have been no need for me to pick her up early...but I was "mean mommy" for trying to make her stay home. I can't win. Fortunately, her fever wasn't back, but she was more congested...so we had to make a pit stop at Rite Aid for more Robitussin. (see God Mom, I hate the taste of that stuff!) Now, let's tally the score: sick kid, lost wages, different stove than I wanted and PMS. Oh yeah, good day...good good day!
*sigh* I'll finish the update of my week later. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it.
