When I mentioned that we were having Thanksgiving pizza instead of turkey and all the trimmings, some people were appalled. (I had mentioned this to other people before Thanksgiving in case those of you reading this blog are confused, a condition that I seem to spread anytime I open my mouth or my fingers touch my keyboard). One of my friends emailed me and, knowing that I love to cook, asked if I wouldn't miss preparing the big meal.
My answer was short and to the point: Hell No!
Now, its true, I do love to cook. It's one of my passions in life. But big holiday dinners drive me insane....mainly because if I am cooking a big holiday meal, then it normally means I will be eating said holiday meal with my family. And anytime I have to spend time with my family...well..let's not go there. LOL
But those aren't the only reasons I didn't miss cooking on the big day.
Did I miss getting up at 5am to stick my hand someplace it didn't really want to be? Nope!
Did I miss using every pot I own, borrowing 10 from my mom, and one from the next door neighbor? No way!
Did I miss making that last minute lad dash to the store because although I had been there six times in the past two days I still managed to forget the rolls and cranberry sauce? No!
Did I miss toasting 5 loaves of bread, chopping up a bumper crop of celery and onions and again sticking my hands into something I would rather not touch? Nuh uh.
Was I upset that for once dinner cleanup took 15 minutes instead of the traditional 3 days? **shaking head vehemently**
Did I miss the applause, accolades and praise I always get for my feast preparation? Well maybe a little. But I did get thanks that the pizza was still hot...and I was complimented on my ability to place a take-out order.
Will I cook next year? You betcha!
